Fundamentalist Quotes - page 5
There is a fundamentalist belief by capitalists that capital will save the world, and it just isn't so.
Thomas Piketty
Vorkalloner seemed suddenly less amusing. "Why are you all so anxious to put us in a bottle, anyway?” "Why, orders,” said Vorkalloner simply, like an ancient fundamentalist who answers every question with the tautology, "Because God made it that way.” Then a little agnostic doubt began to creep over his face. "Actually, I thought we might have been sent out here on guard duty as some kind of punishment,” he joked. The remark caught Vorkosigan's humor. "For your sins? Your cosmology is too egocentric, Aristede”.
Lois McMaster Bujold
It starts off so beautifully and then at the end of that Psalm, the last verse of that Psalm is "How very blessed is the man who dashes the little one's heads against the rocks.” This is not the sort of scripture you read at a pro-life meeting. But it's in there none the less. Which is the thing about the Bible that's why it always cracks me up when people say ‘Well in Dududududududududududududu it says' you kinda go ‘Wow it says a lot of things in there.' Proof texting is a very dangerous thing. I think if we were given the scriptures it was not so that we could prove that we were right about everything. If we were given the scriptures it was to humble us into realizing that God is right and the rest of us are just guessing. Which is what makes them so much fun to read, especially if you are not a fundamentalist.
Rich Mullins
In that photo ("Pale Blue Dot"), the inner meaning of four centuries of astronomical research is suddenly available to all of us at a glance. It is scientific data and art equally, because it has the power to reach into our souls and alter our consciousness. It is like a great book or movie, or any major work of art. It can pierce our denial and allow us to feel something of reality-even a reality that some of us have long resisted. A world that tiny cannot possibly be the center of a cosmos of all that is, let alone the sole focus of its creator. The pale blue dot is a silent rebuke to the fundamentalist, the nationalist, the militarist, the polluter-to anyone who does not put above all other things the protection of our little planet and the life that it sustains in the vast cold darkness. There is no running away from the inner meaning of this scientific achievement.
Ann Druyan
Rather painfully, we managed to digest Darwinian evolution so far as physical attributes were concerned within half a century of the initial controversy. (I say "we,” but if you're a Bible-thumping fundamentalist I expect you at this point to take the book by one corner at arm's length and ceremonially consign it to the place where you put most sensible ideas, along with everything else you decline to acknowledge the existence of, such as mainly shit.)
John Brunner
Any hostility I have encountered has come from two sources: the Christian fundamentalist groups and certain esoteric groups----and for the same reason: they are both defending territory. They are, both of them, the prisoners of their own dogmas. It is not a hostile environment, however, which has delayed Maitreya's emergence but the non-response of humanity---- through its representatives, the media, to the information that He has awaited discovery in London since May 1982. As for His safety, that is assured. He is invulnerable. Chapter One.
Benjamin Creme
