Rather than programming children as if they were computers, parents should be something like art instructors. Because life is like a clump-of-clay, you can't make it into an expression of beauty, unless you take it into your hands. While sprinkling their lives with painful and playful diversions, people wait their lives miserably into old age, for the skills to live-life, to–come as did life- itself.

The whole Renaissance tradition is antipathic to me. The hard-and-fast rules of perspective which it succeeded in imposing on art were a ghastly mistake which it has taken four centuries to redress; Cézanne and after him Picasso and myself can take a lot of credit for this.... scientific perspective forces the objects in a picture to disappear away from the beholder instead of bringing them within his reach as painting should.

"Beautiful" and "ugly" are old-fashioned concepts that are seldom applied these days; perhaps justifiably, who knows?
